Habitats for Second Grade

 Hello all,

In my lesson, I chose to teach about habitats and the interactions that animals, plants, and humans have on different habitats. The lesson will focus on specific topics that are related to the environment that is close to the children I teach. An example of a topic that the students will research is the deer overpopulation in Northeast Ohio. Students will use computers to search about this topic, or two others, and come up with the effects this overpopulation has on the habitat they live near. Before the assignment is given, students will have a lesson on Habitats, similar to the one on this link: https://www.fishtanklearning.org/curriculum/ela/2nd-grade/exploring-habitats/. I believe this topic is important to help the children become interested in the world around them. In today's age, children are more focused on what is going on right in front of their face. Technology has created a disconnect between humans and the natural world. I believe that this lesson will help my students understand the importance of the natural world and the issues we are facing in protecting it. However, technology can help to connect students to the natural world in this assignment by using search engines and word processing software to research these important topics. Students will be able to view pictures and articles on these specific topics.
